India Technology Center Setup

I have established two software development technology centers in India during my career.

The first was for ‘Trilliant Networks’ in 2007, and the second more recently was for ‘Xylem‘ in the year 2017.

2017-2022: Xylem Water Solutions India Pvt. Ltd

“Let’s Solve Water, is the tagline for Xylem. Xylem aimed to provide the complete ecosystem to Smart Cities for freshwater life cycle management – from pumps used for getting water out of the ground, to transport, to commercial buildings, dewatering and flood control pumps, water & sewage treatment plants including rainwater harvesting. In addition to pumps, Xylem sold water analysers and environmental monitoring equipment. In this role, I managed 200+ engineers in the development of our AI IoT platform and its associated software applications. These engineers are organized within three (3) core groups – The Global Engineering Team, Solutions development, and lastly, the Services department (NOC, 24×7 Support). Xylem acquired Sensus that had, in turn, acquired my second start-up , Verdeeco back in 2014.”

Some Key Highlights:

  • Scouting and helping set up office premises. Do all the paperwork for legal entity formation and understand SEZ (Special Economic Zone) tax norms, which helps save the business tax for five (5) years.
  • Establishing hiring processes with HR to hire and on-board engineers in the very dynamic Bangalore labor market
  • Setup a hybrid agile development process for software. Worked with the stakeholders in the US to set up a transparent process which ensured bi-weekly deliverables of the highest quality.
  • Requirements gathering from all internal stakeholders, prototype development, and getting early customer feedback.
  • Seeking approval and funding for such development from senior management and then …
  • Finally, managing the software development to deliver a quality product to our customers.
  • All of these were carried out by my teams in the last four years (from 2017 – 2022), and I am pleased to report that we have delivered seven (7) production applications that are being used by customers of Xylem.

2004-2009: Trilliant Networks

“I was hired to take over the software development in Granby, Quebec and systems integration for Nertec
customers all over the US. Being the sole person in the US, I had to understand the entire application suite,
install it at many customer sites and manage their upgrades. Implemented a new revenue stream consisting of
onsite upgrades & training and software maintenance on all existing applications. As the company grew and
our customers demanded new applications, I was tasked to start an ODC (Offshore Development Center in India), ramp up quickly and provide a new “killer application” every quarter. Key highlight was the successful integration of our application suite with HydroOne’s systems working with Cap Gemini as their SI.”

Some Key Highlights:

  • Responsible for the setup of an ODC (offshore development center) with multiple software development teams, QA teams, and support
  • Infrastructure including Tier-1 and Tier-2 support with a 24×7 help desk.
  • Successfully integrated Trilliant’s systems with various customer CIS systems. Was the sole integration person leading all activities with CapGemini’s team on the HydroOne project
  • Integrated our data acquisition system with the MDM from eMeter and the utility CIS system for the Ontario market.

If you are a technology company headquartered in the USA or any Western country and would like to open a technology center in India to take advantage of the cost and time zone difference that can help establish a 24 x 7 development and testing paradigm, please contact me.
